9-12-70, Lincoln, NE. The Nebraska football team coasts to 36-12 season opening victory behind the passing of Jerry Tagge. September 19th, 1970, Los Angeles, CA. Many folks look at the 70 USC game as the game that set the tone for coach Devaney to lead NU to win 2 National Titles. #3 ranked John McKays USC entered the game as 2 TD favorites but NU immediately jumped on top in a back and forth game that saw NUs big names, Tagge, Rodgers, Orduna, shine. 21-21 tie. 9-26-70, Lincoln, NE. Huskers start slow, two Johnny Rodgers TD catches lift the Big Red to a 28-0 victory. Joe Orduna bangs away for 89 yards and the Blackshirts stuff the Black Knights, giving NU a 451 to 146 yards gained advantage. October 31st, 1970, Boulder, CO. The Huskers prove too frightening for the Buffs on Holloween day, treating NU fans to a 29-13 win. November 7th, 1970, Ames, IA. Despite a game Cyclone squad and a boisterous home crowd, Big Red rolls early and often, amassing 565 yards in offense. A preamble to the following years Game of The Century, the 1970 battle of big reds was a back and forth fight with a game saving pick in the end-zone by Jim Anderson for NU. NU maitains its undefeated season as Tagge completes 14 of 22 for 200 yards, including a 53 yard TD toss to Rodgers.
